US Open Cup

The second round of the US Open Cup opened on Tuesday with nine games.

This round features the first appearances by member clubs of the country's second soccer division, the USL Championship, formerly the United Soccer League.

At Matthews, North Carolina:

After a 2-2 draw through 120 minutes, Bryant Gammiero, Josduar Serrano, Adolfo Williams, Carlos Meneses, and Valentin Sabella all converted their spot kicks as the visiting Florida Soccer Soldiers, a local qualifying club belonging to the ASASA, knocked off the Charlotte Independence of the USL Championship in the penalty kick shootout 5-4.

At Pittsburgh:

Neco Brett scored twice (PK-57', 69') as the Pittsburgh Riverhounds (USL Championship) dominated the visiting Dayton Dutch Lions (USL League 2) 3-0.

At St. Petersburg, Florida:

Zach Steinberger scored a goal (45'+3) and had two assists as USL Championship's Tampa Bay Rowdies dominated visiting The Villages (USL League 2) 4-1.

At Hartford, Connecticut:

Mads Jorgensen scored the winning goal in the 25th minute as Hartford Athletic (USL Championship) defeated visiting New York Cosmos B (NPSL) 2-1.

At Murfreesboro, Tennessee:

Cameron Lancaster scored the winning goal in the 52nd minute as Nashville SC (USL Championship) defeated visiting South Georgia Tormenta FC 2 (USL League 2) 3-2.

At Norman, Oklahoma:

Christian Eissele scored the game winner in the 81st minute by converting a penalty kick as the Oklahoma City Energy (USL Championship) defeated the NTX Rayados (LQ, USASA) 3-1.

At Del Valle, Texas:

In a battle of USL Championship clubs, Sonny Guardarrama (34') and Andre Lima (74') each scored once as the Austin Bold blanked the visiting Tulsa Roughnecks 2-0.

At San Antonio, Texas:

Desire Eboussi (17') and Ever Guzman (41') each scored once, with Jack Barmby assisting on both goals as San Antonio FC (USL Championship) blanked the visiting Laredo Heat (NPSL) 2-0.

At Las Vegas, Nevada:

In a contest in which both clubs were reduced to ten men, Samuel Ochoa (13') and Victor Rojas (50') each scored once as the Las Vegas Lights (USL Championship) blanked visiting Cal FC (LQ, USASA) 2-0.
