Canada's big domestic soccer competition, the expanded Canadian Championship opened with three games on Wednesday.
At Blainville, Quebec:
The opening match between AS Blainville (Premier Soccer League of Quebec) and visiting York 9 FC (Canadian Premier League) ended in a 0-0 stalemate.
At Vaughan, Ontario:
Mohamed Kourouma scored the winning goal in second-half stoppage time (90'+3) as the HFX Wanderers (CPL) knocked off the Vaughan Azzurri (League 1 Ontario) 3-2 in the series-opening match.
At Langford, British Columbia:
In a battle of Canadian Premier League clubs, Dominick Zator (9') and Oliver Thomal Minatel (16') each scored once as Cavalry FC blanked Pacific FC 2-0 on the road in game one of their two-game series.
All three series are set to conclude next Wednesday.
The winner of the tournament will win the Voyageurs Cup and qualify for next year's CONCACAF Champions League.
