Two Group D games were played in France on Wednesday as the FIFA Women's World Cup continued.
At Nice:
Ellen White scored twice (14', 84') as England defeated Japan 2-0 to lock up top spot in Group D as both squads advanced to the knockout stage.
At Paris:
Milagros Menendez (74'), Lee Alexander (OG-79'), and Maria Flor Bonsegundo (PK-90'+4) each scored once in the second half as Argentina came back from down three goals to gain a 3-3 draw with Scotland to keep their chances of advancing to the knockout stage alive.
Kim Little (19'), Jennifer Beattie (49'), and Erin Cuthbert (69') each scored once for the Scots, who by blowing that three-goal lead, were eliminated from the tournament.
Final Group D Standings:
1. England (GP: 3; GD: +4; PTS: 9)
2. Japan (GP: 3; GD: -1; PTS: 4)
3. Argentina (GP: 3; GD: -1; PTS: 2)
4. Scotland (GP: 3; GD: -2; PTS: 1)
England and Japan advanced to the knockout stage; Argentina can still advance as one of the four third-placed teams with the best records.
