The opening round of the inaugural edition of the CONCACAF League, in essence a glorified qualifying stage for an available berth in next year's CONCACAF Champions League commenced on Tuesday with two games.
At Tibas, Costa Rica:
Kenny Cunningham's successful penalty kick in the fourth minute started a scoring barrage that carried Santos de Guapiles to a series-opening 6-2 beatdown of visiting San Juan Jabloteh (Trinidad and Tobago).
At Panama City, Panama:
Guillermo Sierra scored the first goal in CONCACAF League history in the 47th minute as Chorrollo FC took the opening match of their two-game series with Honduras Progreso 1-0 at home.
