UEFA Champions League: Bhoys, Slavia Prague, Copenhagen, Nice, Olympiacos, Young Boys Advance To Playoff Round

Fourteen games were contested on Wednesday as the second round of UEFA Champions League came to a close.

CHAMPIONS ROUTE:

At Barysaw, Belarus:

Milan Skoda scored what proved to be the series-winning goal in the 44th minute as Slavia Prague, despite dropping a 2-1 game-two road decision to FC BATE Borisov, won their series with the Belorussian club on away goals with the aggregate score at 2-2.

At Warsaw, Poland:

Despite dropping a 1-0 game-two road decision to Legia Warsaw, Astana still knocked out the Polish club 3-2 on aggregate.

At Hafnarfjordur, Iceland:

Marcos Tavares scored the only goal of the match in the second minute of second-half stoppage time as NK Maribor registered a second 1-0 victory over FH Hafnarfjordur, this time on the road, and ousted the Icelandic club 2-0 on aggregate.

At Copenhagen, Denmark:

Jan Gregus (2'), Tigran Barseshyan (OG-26'), Federico Santander (75'), and Pieros Sotiriou (PK-88') each scored once as FC Copenhagen overcame their series-opening road setback with a 4-1 game-two home domination of Vardar and finished off the Macedonian club 4-2 on aggregate.

At Trondheim, Norway:

James Forrest scored the only goal of both game two and the series in the 69th minute as Celtic defeated Rosenborg 1-0 on the road in game two and eliminated the Norwegian club by that same score on aggregate.

At Razgrad, Bulgaria:

Mohammed Ghadir scored the series-winning goal in the 61st minute as Hapoel Be'er Sheva, despite dropping a 3-1 game-two road decision to Ludogorets Razgrad, still won their series on away goals with the aggregate score at 3-3.

At Nicosia, Cyprus:

After Carlao scored in the 54th minute, APOEL FC gained a game-two 1-0 regulation decision over visiting Vittorul Constanta to square the series at 1-1 on aggregate, Giorgos Merkis (93'), Igor de Camargo (94'), and Georgios Efrem (105'+1) each scored a goal in the opening overtime period as the Cypriot club knocked out the Romanian club 4-1 on aggregate.

At Rijeka, Croatia:

A 0-0 game-two home stalemate with Austria Vienna was good enough for Rijeka as the Croatian club won their series on away goals with the aggregate score at 1-1.

At Piraeus, Greece:

Mehdi Carcela (21') and Konstantinos Fortounis (51') each scored once as Olympiacos gained a game-two 2-2 home deadlock with Partizan Belgrade and won their series with the Serbian club 5-3 on aggregate.


LEAGUE ROUTE:

At Plzen, Czech Republic:

Mihai Balasa (27'), Felipe Teixeira (71'), Florin Tanase (76'), and Denis Alibec (PK-79') each scored once as Steaua Bucharest dominated FC Viktoria Plzen 4-1 on the road in game two and won their series 6-3 on aggregate.

At Amsterdam, Netherlands:

Arnaud Souquet (3') and Vincent Marcel (79') each scored once as Nice gained a 2-2 game-two road draw with Ajax Amsterdam, and with the aggregate score at 3-3, advanced on away goals.

At Bern, Switzerland:

Guillaume Hoarau (PK-13') and Jordan Lotomba (90') each scored once as BSC Young Boys overcame their series-opening defeat in Ukraine and blanked visiting Dynamo Kiev 2-0 in game two, and with the aggregate score at 3-3, advanced to the playoff round on away goals.

At Moscow:

Bibras Natkho scored the only goal of the match in the 74th minute as CSKA Moscow defeated visiting AEK Athens 1-0 in game two and won their series 3-0 on aggregate.

At Istanbul, Turkey:

Emmanuel Adebayor (7') and Edin Visca (34') each scored a first-half goal as Istanbul Basaksehir blanked visiting Club Brugge 2-0 in game two and won their series 5-3 on aggregate.



All clubs that were eliminated this week still qualified for the knockout round for Europa League group-stage berths while the winners advanced to the Champions League's playoff round.
