UEFA Champions League: Bhoys, Legend, Hapoel Be'er Sheva, Sevilla, Napoli Take Series Openers

The playoff round for UEFA Champions League group-stage berths reached the midway point on Wednesday with five games.

Champions Route:

At Piraeus, Greece:

Vadis Odjidja-Ofoe (66') and Alaixys Romao (90'+3) each scored once as Olympiacos came from behind to upend visiting Rijeka 2-1 in the opening match of their two-game series.  Heber Aroujo dos Santos kept the Croatian club's hopes of advancing to the group stage alive with his goal in the 42nd minute.

At Glasgow, Scotland:

Scott Sinclair scored twice (42', 60') as Celtic demolished visiting Astana 5-0 in their series-opening contest.

At Beersheba, Israel:

Anthony Nwakaeme (12') and Shir Tzedek (PK-45'+2) each scored once in the first half as Hapoel Be'er Sheva took their series opening contest 2-1 over visiting Maribor.  Marcos Tavares scored for the Slovenian club in the 16th minute, keeping them in the series.



League Route:

At Istanbul, Turkey:

Sergio Escudero (16') and Wissam Ben Yedder (84') provided the scoring touch to propel Sevilla to a series-opening 2-1 road victory over Istanbul Basaksehir.

At Naples, Italy:

Dries Mertens (13') and Jorginho (PK-70') each produced a goal as Napoli blanked visiting Nice 2-0 in their series-opening match.
