UEFA Champions League: Qarabag (A First For Azerbaijan), APOEL, Horses, Reds, Lions Advance To Group Stage As Qualifying Ends

The final five available group-stage berths were up for grabs as five games were contested on Wednesday as the playoff round of the UEFA Champions League concluded.

Champions Route:

At Copenhagen, Denmark:

Dino Ndlovu scored what proved to be the series-winning goal in the 63rd minute as Qarabag, despite dropping a 2-1 game-two road decision to FC Copenhagen, won their series with the Danish club on away goals with the aggregate score at 2-2.  The Horsemen became the first club from Azerbaijan to ever advance to the Champions League's group stage.

At Prague, Czech Republic:

A game-two 0-0 road stalemate was good enough for APOEL FC as the Cypriot club took their series with Slavia Prague 2-0 on aggregate.

League Route:

At Moscow:

Georgi Shchenikov (45') and Alan Dzagoev (64') each scored once as CSKA Moscow blanked visiting BSC Young Boys 2-0 in game two and eliminated the Swiss club 3-0 on aggregate.

At Liverpool, England:

Emrc Can proved he can score as he tallied twice (10', 21) to help lift Liverpool to a 4-2 game-two home win over TSG 1899 Hoffenheim as the Reds ousted the German club 6-3 on aggregate.

At Bucharest, Romania:

Seydou Doumbia (13'), Marcos Acuna (60'), Gelson Martins (64'), Bas Doast (75'), and Rodrigo Battaglia (88') each once as Sporting CP went on a four-goal barrage in the second half and demolished Stuaua Bucharest 5-1 on the road in game two and won their series by that same score on aggregate.

All ten clubs that lost their series on Tuesday and Wednesday will play in the Europa League's group stage.
