MLS: Timbers, Citizens Grab Sunday Wins; Five Stripes Gain Late Draw At SKC

Three games were contested in Major League Soccer on Sunday.

At Portland, Oregon:

Liam Ridgewell (5'), Diego Valeri (33'), and Alvis Powell (53') each scored once as the Portland Timbers held off the visiting Los Angeles Galaxy 3-1.

After Emmanuel Boateng equalized for the Galaxy in the sixth minute, Gyasi Zardes apparently put Los Angeles ahead in the tenth minute only go see his goal disallowed by referee Drew Fischer via video review when it was learned that ol' Gyasi had his hand on the ball before it went to the back of the net.

At New York:

David Villa delivered a hat trick (28', 72', PK-75') as New York City came from behind to upend the visiting New York Red Bulls 3-2.

Bradley Wright-Phillips produced both of the Red Bulls' goals in the 41st and 64th minutes.

At Kansas City, Kansas:

Jacob Peterson's stoppage-time equalizer (90'+1) against his former team lifted Atlanta United to a 1-1 road draw with Sporting Kansas City.

Benny Feilhaber successfully converted a penalty kick in the 59th minute for Kansas City's tally.
