Addicks Settle For Draw With Royals; Bolton and Everton Gain No Ground On Arsenal; Hornets Double Pompey

Six games were played Monday in the English Premier League:

At Reading:

Charlton Athletic climbed up to one point above the relegation zone after their 0-0 home stalemate with Reading.

At Newcastle:

Visiting (and fourth-place) Arsenal were held to a 0-0 road deadlock by Newcastle United. The draw, though, did end the Gunners' three-game Premiership losing streak.

At Bolton:

Two clubs that look like they may be set for European competition next season battled to a 1-1 draw. Fifth-place hosts Bolton and sixth-place Everton remain two and five points, respectively, out of the EPL's final Champions League qualifying berth. Kevin Davies put the Trotters in front at 18 minutes, then the visiting Toffees' James Vaughan equalized at 33 minutes.

At Watford:

Hameur Bouazza's double (PK-28', 73') helped lead basement-occupying Watford to a surprising 4-2 doubling of Portsmouth for only their fourth league win of the season, perhaps damaging Pompey's hopes of qualifying for European competition.

At London:

Tallies through the courtesy of Joey Barton (21'), DaMarcus Beasley (36'), and Darius Vassell (59') powered Manchester City to a 3-1 home victory over struggling Fulham. The loss leaves the Cottagers only four points above the relegation zone.

At Birmingham:

Gabriel Agbonlahor's equalizer at 50 minutes enabled Aston Villa to gain a 1-1 home draw with Wigan. The Latics, whose Emile Heskey had put them ahead at 21 minutes, now sit three points above the drop zone.
