Expanding Lead Atop La Liga Standings For Barca; Celta Out Of Drop Zone; Valencia Beats Sevilla In Big Match; Gimnastic Shocks Zaragoza

Eight games took place Sunday in the Spanish Premiera Division:

At Barcelona:

Fernando Navarro's own goal (89') proved decisive as Barcelona defeated visiting Mallorca 1-0 to stretch their lead atop the La Liga standings to four points.

At Vigo:

Celta Vigo, in a successful debut for new head coach Hristo Stoichkov, climbed out of the relegation zone, as Fernando Baiano's goal (61') lifted Celta to a 1-0 home win over Deportivo La Coruna.

At Valencia:

David Villa's double (27', PK-50') proved to be all the scoring as Valencia reclaimed fourth place in the standings with their 2-0 home win over Sevilla, who now fall four points in back of frontrunning Barcelona.

At Tarragona:

Basement-residing Gimnastic de Tarragona, thanks to Javier Portillo's goal (82') knocked off Real Zaragoza at home 1-0.

At Bilbao:

Two goals courtesy of Ismael Urzaiz (62', 78') lifted Athletic Bilbao, in their bid for La Liga survival, to a 2-1 come-from-behind home win over Espanyol.

At Madrid:

Fernando Torres scored the only goal (60') of Atletico Madrid's 1-0 home win over Levante, who have now fallen into the drop zone.

At Pamplona:

Florent Sinama-Pongelle put visiting Recreativo Heulva in front with his goal at 52 minutes, only to see Cesar Cruchaga equalize at 56' for Osasuna as the two clubs battled to a 1-1 stalemate.

At Madrid (Getafe):

Getafe, with goals from Javi Casquero (31'), Maris Verpakovskis (65'), and Valetin Pachon (84'), overpowered visiting Villarreal 3-0.
