Three Wednesday matches took place in the English Premier League:
At London:
Shaun Wright-Phillips scored twice (31' 36') to help lead Chelsea to an easy 4-1 road beating of relegation-threatened West Ham United. The win moved the Blues back within three points of table-topping Manchester United.
At Liverpool:
Steven Gerard (58', PK-65') provided both goals in Liverpool's 2-0 home win over Middlesbrough. The Reds overtook Arsenal and have taken over third place in the EPL standings.
At Blackburn:
Christopher Samba (7'), Jason Roberts (10'), Benedict McCarthy (32'), all with goals in the first half, lifted Blackburn to a 3-1 home win over Watford, who could offically be relegated from the Premiership as soon as this coming weekend after one year in the top flight.
