Win Puts Ajax Within Striking Distance of PSV; Excelsior Up From Relegation-Playoff Zone By Compounding ADO's Woes

Five games were played on Sunday in the Dutch Eredivisie:

At Amsterdam:

Two quick second-half goals from Klaas-Jan Huntelaar (50', 52') contributed to Ajax Amsterdam's 3-0 home whitewashing off newly planted relegation-playoff zone residents SC Heracles Almelo. The win put Ajax in second place, three points in back of frontrunning PSV Eindhoven.

At Rotterdam:

With goals through the courtesy of Jarda Simr (10'), Eldridge Rojer (30'), and Daniel Guijo-Velasco (61'), Excelsior escaped from the relegation-playoff zone by defeating last-place ADO Den Haag at home 3-1.

At Arnhem:

Pierre van Hooijdonk's score at 79 minutes lifted Champions League hopeful Feyenoord Rotterdam to a 1-0 road win over Vitesse Arnhem.

At Rotterdam:

After trailing 2-0 at halftime, Sparta Rotterdam got tallies from Darryl Roberts (48') and Sjaak Polak (PK-74') as the hosts battled back to gain a 2-2 stalemate with SC Heerenveen.

At Enschede:

Champions League hopeful FC Twente Enschede drilled visiting FC Utrecht 3-0. Ramon Zomer (10), Blaise N'Kufo (25'), and Kennedy Bakircioglu (90') provided the goals for the Reds.
