CAF Champions League: Group-Stage Play Ends

Group-stage play in the CAF Champions League concluded on Tuesday with eight games.

GROUP A, both games set to kick off at 12:00 Noon Pacific Time:

At Alexandria, Egypt:

Walid Azaro scored twice (23', 62') as Al-Ahly held off visiting KCCA 4-3 to capture top spot in Group A.

At Gaborone, Botswana:

Township Rollers and visiting Esperance de Tunis battled to a 0-0 deadlock.

Final Group A Standings:

1. Al-Ahly (GP: 6; GD: +4; PTS: 13)
2. Esperance de Tunis (GP: 6; GD: +4; PTS: 11)
3. KCCA (GP: 6; GD: -1; PTS: 6)
4. Township Rollers (GP: 6; GD: -7; PTS: 4)

Al-Ahly and Esperance de Tunis advanced to the quarterfinal round.



GROUP B:

At Lubumbashi, Democratic Republic of the Congo:

Houssine Khoukhouche's equalizer in the opening minute of second-half stoppage time carried Difaa El Jadidi to a 1-1 road draw with TP Mazembe.

However, the draw wasn't enough to carry the Moroccan club into the quarterfinal round, due to ES Setif's victory over MC Alger.

Ben Malango's successful penalty kick in the 87th minute provided the scoring for the Congolese club, who had already locked up first place in Group B.

At Algiers, Algeria:

El Habib Bouguelmouna's game-winning goal in the 27th minute carried ES Setif to a 2-1 road win over MC Alger and a berth in the quarterfinal round.

Final Group B Standings:

1. TP Mazembe (GP: 6; GD: +6; PTS: 12)
2. ES Setif (GP: 6; GD: -2; PTS: 8)
3. Difaa El Jadidi (GP: 6; GD: -1; PTS: 6)
4. MC Alger (GP: 6; GD: -3; PTS: 5)

TP Mazembe and ES Setif advanced to the quarterfinal round.



GROUP C:

At Lome, Togo:

AS Togo-Port and visiting Wydad Casablanca battled to a 0-0 stalemate.

At Pretoria, South Africa:

Mamelodi Sundowns and guests Horoya played to a 0-0 deadlock, enabling the Guinean club to advance to the quarterfinal round.

Final Group C Standings:

1. Wydad Casablanca (GP: 6; GD: +6; PTS: 11)
2. Horoya (GP: 6; GD: 0; PTS: 8)
3. Mamelodi Sundowns (GP: 6; GD: -1; PTS: 5)
4. AS Togo-Port (GP: 6; GD: -5; PTS: 3)

Wydad Casablanca and Horoya advanced to the quarterfinal round.



GROUP D:

At Ndola, Zambia:

Rami Bedoui's goal in the 87th minute lifted Etoile du Sahel to a 1-1 road draw with ZESCO United.

Lazarous Kambole scored in the eighth minute for the Zambian club.

At Luanda, Angola:

Jacques Bituma (34') and Geraldo (38') each scored once as the 1st of August Club defeated visiting Mbabane Swallows 2-1 to advance to the quarterfinal round. 

Final Group D Standings:

1. Etoile du Sahel (GP: 6; GD: +6; PTS: 12)
2. 1st of August Sports Club (GP: 6; GD: +1; PTS: 9)
3. ZESCO United (GP: 6; GD: +1; PTS: 6)
