UEFA Champions League: PSV Knock Off BATE On Road In Series Opener; Red Star Belgrade and Salzburg Draw; Benfica and PAOK Likewise

The playoff round for UEFA Champions League group-stage berths opened with three games.

CHAMPIONS PATH:

At Belgrade, Serbia:

Red Star Belgrade and visiting FC Red Bull Salzburg battled to a series-opening 0-0 stalemate.

At Barysaw, Belarus:

Donyell Malen scored the winning goal in the 89th minute as PSV Eindhoven defeated FC BATE Borisov 3-2 on the road in game one of their series.



LEAGUE PATH:

At Lisbon:

Amr Warda's equalizer in the 76th minute lifted PAOK FC to a series-opening 1-1 road draw with SL Benfica.

Luis Miguel Afonso Fernandes (a.k.a. Pizzi) converted a penalty kick in the opening minute of first-half stoppage time for the Eagles.
