Copa Libertadores

The Copa Libertadores' Round of 16 resumed on Tuesday with three games.

At Porto Alegre, Brazil:

After taking game two 2-1 in regulation to square the series at 3-3 on aggregate, and with overtime dispensed with, Maicon, Everton Sousa Soares, Jael Ferreira Vieira, Alisson, and Andre Filipe Ribeiro de Souza all converted their spot kicks as Gremio won the penalty-kick shootout 5-3 against visiting Estudiantes.

At Medellin, Colombia:

Omar Duarte's goal in the 11th minute carried Atletico Nacional to a 1-0 game-two home win over Atletico Tucuman and a 2-1 aggregate victory to advance to the quarterfinals.

At Sao Paulo, Brazil:

A 0-0 road stalemate in game two with Santos was more than good enough for Independiente as the Argentinian club won their series 3-0 on aggregate*.

*Independiente was awarded a series-opening 3-0 victory over Santos after the Brazilian club fielded an ineligible player.
