At Belgrade, Serbia:
Erik Grendel's equalizer in the 25th minute carried Spartak Trnava to a series-opening 1-1 road draw with Red Star Belgrade.
El Fardou Ben Nabouhane scored at 23 minutes for the Serbian club.
At Baku, Azerbaijan:
Stanislaw Drahun scored the only goal of the match in the 36th minute as FC BATE Borisov took the opening contest of their series with Qarabag 1-0 on the road.
At Astana, Kazakhstan:
Mario Budmir (39') and Dani Olmo (84') each scored once as Dinamo Zagreb took their series opener with Astana 2-0 on the road.
At Malmo, Sweden:
Loic Nego's equalizer in the 71st minute lifted MOL Vidi to a series-opening 1-1 road draw with Malmo FF.
Anders Christiansen scored for the hosts in the 62nd minute.
LEAGUE PATH:
At Liege, Belgium:
Mehdi Carcela-Gonzalez (67') and Renaud Emond (PK-90'+4) each scored a goal in the second half, enabling Standard Liege to battle back from two goals down to gain a series-opening 2-2 home draw with Ajax Amsterdam.
Klaas-Jan Huntelaar (19') and Dusan Tadic (34') delivered the goals in the opening half for the visiting Dutch club.
At Lisbon:
Franco Cervi scored the only goal of SL Benfica's 1-0 series-opening home victory over Fenerbahce in the 69th minute.
At Prague, Czech Republic:
Josef Husbauer's penalty kick at the death (90'+5) eanbled Slavia Prague to gain a 1-1 series-opening home deadlock with Dynamo Kiev.
