World Cup Classic: 1954 Final As West Germany Shocks Hungary

Let's go to our video archive for highlights from the championship match of the 1954 World Cup, held on July 4 of that year at Wankdorf Stadium in Berne, Switzerland, before 60,000 fans as West Germany defeated Hungary 3-2.

In the match, Ferenc Puskas opened the scoring for Hungary in the 6th minute, then, two minutes later, thanks to a West German defensive blunder, Zoltan Czibor scored to give the Hungarians a 2-0 advantage.  But then, the West Germans battled back, as Max Morlock scored at 10 minutes.  Helmut (The Boss) Rahn equalized at 18 minutes.  In the 83rd minute, the Boss scored what turned out to be the game-winning goal.  With seconds remaining in regulation, what would have been the equalizer from Ferenc Puskas was waived off as offside.  West Germany would win the first of three World Cup titles with the 3-2 win in the "Miracle of Berne."
