US Open Cup: Two USL-2 (Third Division) Teams Knock Off MLS Opponents

Six games were played Tuesday in the Round of 16 in the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup tournament.

At Harrisburg, Pennsylvania:

Dominic Oppong scored the only goal of the match in overtime (117') as the Harrisburg City Islanders knocked off the New York Red Bulls 1-0 at home.

At Columbus, Ohio:

Andy Iro (30') and Steven Lenhart (90'+4) provided the goals that carried the Columbus Crew to a 2-1 home win over the Rochester Rhinos (D2 Pro).

At Bridgeview, Illinois:

After 120 scoreless minutes, Lamar Neagle, Mike Zaher, and Ian Fuller all made their penalty kicks as the Charleston Battery (USL-2) stunned the Chicago Fire 3-0 in the penalty-kick shootout on the road.

At Houston:

Lovel Palmer scored the game's long goal (80') as the Houston Dynano defeated visiting Miami FC (D2 Pro) 1-0.

At Carson, California:

The Los Angeles Galaxy defeated AC St. Louis (D2 Pro) 2-0 at home.  Chris Klein (69') and Juninho (80') provided the tallies for the Galaxy.

At Fullerton, California:

Jesus Padilla's goal at 13 minutes provided all the scoring as Chivas USA defeated the Austin Aztex (D2 Pro) 1-0.
